Priorities
Henry Sanders brings extensive experience in the public, private, and non-profit sectors to the office of Lieutenant Governor. He will take this broad experience and apply it toward one goal: creating jobs for Wisconsin’s hardworking families. He’ll attack this problem as he always has—by bringing people together from all walks of life to find new solutions to the challenges we face.
As our Lieutenant Governor, Henry Sanders will lead the way to:
Create jobs by focusing on the new economy
New and growing industries hold tremendous job growth potential. Wisconsin can build on its proud manufacturing tradition in industries like alternative energy, clean technology, and biotechnology. We must prepare Wisconsin workers to become part of a new, creative workforce. Our technical college system must lead the way to retrain dislocated workers for jobs in the new economy, and help our entire workforce evolve with the changing job market.
Create jobs through new partnerships
Henry knows first hand the importance of working with labor, education, small business owners, local community leaders, and others to form public-private partnerships that can grow the economy and create jobs.
Create jobs through support of small business
Seventy-six percent of businesses in Wisconsin are small businesses. There is significantly greater job creation potential in helping small businesses grow than in the failed policies of chasing smokestacks or offering tax breaks to big, out of state corporations.
Create jobs through better use of state resources.
Various state agencies already have programs in place that can help businesses grow and create jobs, but there is no single conduit for information or assistance. As Lt. Governor, Henry will pull these agencies together to strengthen existing programs, streamline the process and find new ways for agencies to work together.
Create jobs through increased federal funding
It’s no secret that banks aren’t lending much to small businesses these days. Credit is increasingly difficult to come by. Henry will lead the charge to secure additional sources of capital. Through his own small business, Henry has brought back more than $10 million in just two years to help other small businesses grow and create local jobs. As Lt. Governor, he’ll use that experience and success to bring even more funding back to Wisconsin.
Create jobs by building a stronger workforce
Quality K-12 and higher education, top-notch vocational and continuing education opportunities, and guaranteed access to affordable health care will ensure we have a workforce that is the strongest and most creative in the country. As any economic development expert will attest, a strong workforce is the greatest tool to attract and retain new businesses - and create jobs in the process.
Get the most out of every state office
In these tough economic times, there’s no room in the state budget for a ceremonial office. It’s all-hands-on-deck time. With Henry Sanders at the helm, the office of Lt. Governor will become the place where job creation begins.
