Democratic Leaders Back Sanders by 2-to-1 Margin
Grassroots activists vote overwhelmingly in support of proven job creator for Lt Governor
MIDDLETON – Democratic leaders from across the state voted overwhelmingly in support of Henry Sanders for Lieutenant Governor at the party’s annual convention this weekend. Party leaders and grassroots activists polled by the independent, non-partisan news service WisPolitics.com backed Sanders by a 2-to-1 margin [see the official poll results here].
“More than 1,300 party leaders and grassroots activists at the Democratic convention sent two messages loud and clear,” said Sanders. “First, they are united behind our next governor, Tom Barrett. And second, they want me as his running mate for the next four months – and as his Lieutenant Governor for the next four years.”
Sanders received nearly 60% of all ballots cast in the annual poll. State Representative Thomas Nelson finished a distant second in the poll, garnering only 167 votes. State Senator Spencer Coggs and former Lodi Alderman James Schneider received 43 votes and 11 votes, respectively.
“The energy and enthusiasm I saw this weekend was inspiring,” said Sanders. “Clearly, people are tired of politics as usual – and they want a new voice with fresh ideas. They want someone with real world job creation experience who has a real plan in hand to get the job done. Their passion has strengthened my resolve to win this race and get to work for Wisconsin’s working families.”
Nonprofit executive, community activist, and small business owner Henry Sanders lives with his wife and daughter in Waunakee, WI. Sanders is the founder of Madison Area Growth Network and Propel Wisconsin Innovation – nonprofit organizations dedicated to job growth – and Capacity-360, a small business that connects other small to mid-sized businesses with capital and other resources. Sanders is the Vice-Chair of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin Black Caucus and serves on the state’s Workforce Development Board.
